This iReport is part of an assignment:
Eye on the Philippines |
Ivatan in her Vakul
In Batanes, the northernmost islands in the Philippines, the locals called Ivatans still wear the traditional headgear called Vakul to protect them for the harsh sun and rain. Vakul is made from the dried leaves of the tree called Vuyavuy, a short palm tree growing in the coastal hills of Batanes.
