Thousands of Spanish Teachers and students took to the streets Tuesday in protest of Spains austerity measures that would leave 100,000 subsitute teachers out of work. The Spanish government is saying that these cuts are necessary in order to quell the Eurozone debt that has grown to 16% of its GDP.

The central government of Spain ordered 14 billion euros worth of cuts to education cuts for the remainder of the year as part of a tough plan to trim the deficit and bring down spending. The European union collectively agreed to a total of 5.3% in GDP spending and Spain will not be the only country to cut from education, infrastructure, and social programs.

The austerity measures come at a time when the European governments need to reassure investors that everything is under control. Investors in Europe are leaving in droves and going to more stable, growing asian markets like China and India where demand for goods are going up and there are less regulations.
