    Golden Gate Bridge: 75th birthday

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     notary01 Ed G. De Guzman says the celebration was greeted with a wide range of spectators from all over. He says people were armed with their cameras, ready to capture the festivities while also bracing themselves for some unexpectedly chilly weather from the Pacific coast. 'People braved the 48 degrees temperature from the Pacific Ocean breeze just to be part of history,' he says. He says overall the turnout was impressive and commends the city for encouraging people to use public transit.

    Golden Gate Bridge pyrotechnics

    Sunday, May 27, 2010
San Francisco, California -- The sidewalk at the Marina
Blvd. along the Marina Green was five layers deep of people
with their eyes on the sky, anxious for the sights and sounds
of the series of fireworks, in celebration of the 75th
anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The numerous yacht masts partly obscured cameras and videos
at the corner of Marina Blvd., Cervantes Blvd. and
    Scott Street in San Francisco.

The spectators applauded and cheered on the majestic
display of fireworks, which started at 9:30 up to
    9:50 P.M.

The Golden Gate Bridge fireworks multi media promotion
was a success. People were strongly advised to use
public transit, walk or bike. Thus, a horde of people
used public transportation: San Francisco Bay Ferry,
Blue & Gold Fleet, Golden Gate Ferry, Bay Area Rapid
Transit District, Golden Gate Transit, CalTrain,
San Mateo County Transit, AC Transit, SF MUNI...

The SF MUNI bus terminal at the corner of Fillmore
Street, Bay Street and Cervantes Blvd. became
the hub of near-stampede activity from 10 P.M. up
    to past 10:30 P.M.

What took 15 minutes from Hyde Street and Grove
Street to Fillmore and Bay Street became one
solid hour going back, after the event, due to
    gridlock on certain intersections.
